A bouncer gives a small baby a snug, slightly upright seat to watch the room from, and gives the grown-up a few minutes with both hands free. Some bounce as the baby kicks, some rock, and one vibrates as well; a couple carry on as a toddler seat, so they’re in use long after the bouncing stage.
The limits differ, so check the maker’s: three of the five stop at 9kg as a bouncer (BabyBjörn and Red Kite say sooner, once the baby starts trying to sit up), while Maxi-Cosi rates the Kori to 15kg and Ingenuity its seat to 18kg. BabyBjörn’s, Badabulle’s and Red Kite’s instructions agree: always use the harness, keep the bouncer on the floor, never on a table or other raised surface, and never leave the baby in it unattended. BabyBjörn and Red Kite add that it isn’t for sleep, so move a sleeping baby to a cot.
