The best high chairs
Light fold-flat chairs for a small kitchen, or reclining seats that start from birth: five high chairs compared on age, recline, height and fold.
High chairs come in two kinds. Simple compact chairs, like the Red Kite and My Babiie here, sit at one height with no recline, weigh 5kg or less and fold flat: they suit babies from about six months who can sit up unaided. Adjustable chairs raise and lower the seat to meet the table, and the Cosatto and Silver Cross also recline into a cradle from birth, so a newborn can join in at mealtimes before weaning starts.
Every chair here has a five-point harness, and each maker that gives a limit puts it at 15kg, roughly three years old. Mamas & Papas, My Babiie and Cosatto say their chairs meet EN 14988, the European standard for children’s high chairs. A light, flat fold matters if the chair goes away after every meal, and a tray that comes off lets it pull right up to the family table.

Silver Cross Buffet Highchair
