A laser level throws a perfectly level (and vertical) line across a wall, so there's no balancing a spirit level and a pencil. Pictures, shelves, tiles, curtain poles and kitchen units all go up straight first time.
Green beams are much easier to see than red in a bright room. Self-levelling models sort themselves out within a few degrees, and a tripod makes it far easier to put the line exactly where you want it.
