The best UV nail lamps
Gel polish only sets under the right light: three UV LED lamps and two complete starter kits, compared on power, timers and heat control.
Gel polish stays soft until it’s cured under a lamp. An LED lamp does it in under a minute a coat, where the older UV-bulb lamps took a couple of minutes or more, and its LEDs don’t need replacing the way bulbs do. Every lamp here comes on by itself when a hand goes in, and all but the Modelones have a low-heat setting for thick builder gels. The two kits add the colours and coats for a first manicure, Mylee’s with prep and remover as well and Modelones’ with twelve shades.
Don’t read too much into the watts. Mylee, whose Grande lamp runs on 18W, points out that wattage measures the electricity a lamp draws, not how well it cures, so room for all five fingers, timers that match the gel and a base that lifts out for toes matter more. For anyone curing often, SUNUV suggests sun cream on the backs of the hands.
