The best protein shakers
A whisk ball, a mixing net or a motor: five shakers compared on size, how they mix and how easily they clean.
A shaker earns its keep by mixing powder without lumps and getting to the gym and back without leaking into the bag. Most do it with a steel whisk ball that rattles round the bottle; the Smartshake uses a mixing net instead, and the VOLTRX has a small motor and blade in its base.
Look at the markings as well as the size. Bottles are only marked part of the way up, to leave room for shaking, so the scale matters more than the headline figure for a big shake. And check it’s dishwasher safe: a bottle that’s had milk in it all afternoon needs a proper wash.
