A running belt does the job a pocket can’t: it keeps your phone and keys close to the body, where they don’t swing around. Tube belts are a loop of stretchy fabric with openings to slip things into and nothing to buckle or zip; pouch belts carry zipped pockets on an adjustable strap; hydration belts add holsters for water bottles.

Every belt here has some reflective trim, and none is sold as waterproof: water resistance against sweat and rain is the most the makers promise. Most adjust on a strap, and some come in sizes, chosen by measuring your waist or hips. The phone sizes in the table are the makers’ own.

What matters

  • The biggest phone the maker says will fit, in its case.
  • Separate pockets, so keys stay off the phone screen.
  • An earbud cable port, if you run with wired headphones.
  • Toggles for a race bib, if you enter races.

A slim zipped pouch on an elastic strap, with a main compartment that takes almost any phone and a separate small one for keys, cash and cards, so nothing scratches the screen. Two reflective strips run along the zip for runs at dusk.

What owners say: Snug without bouncing, it stays in place for running and walking, and the small pocket takes a couple of keys and an AirPods case beside the phone.

A closer look: Unlike most strap belts it comes in two sizes, so measure your waist against the size chart in the listing photos before choosing; the link opens on S–M, and M–L has a longer strap. At about 3 oz it’s barely noticed on a long run, and it’s hand wash only.

  • Two reflective strips
  • Weighs about 3 oz
  • Hand wash only

Best for: Phone and keys kept apart

A low-profile pouch: one expandable pocket that takes any phone in its case, plus keys and a card, worn low enough to hide under a shirt. A TPU lining and a water-resistant zip keep sweat and rain out, and two reflective strips catch headlights.

What owners say: Phone, wallet, keys and earbuds all fit, and it hugs the waist without bouncing or shifting on runs. The one doubt is durability, with a few finding it coming apart within weeks.

A closer look: U·LANARO suggests wearing it just below the waistband, where a shirt or jacket covers it, which also suits walking the dog or a day of sightseeing. At 2.4 oz it barely registers, and it’s hand wash only.

A soft, quick-drying stretch pouch on an elastic strap that adjusts from about 26 to 42 inches, with room for a big phone, keys, cards and a couple of gels, and a hole to feed an earbud cable through.

What owners say: Light and compact without any bulk, it holds still on the move, with no flipping, sagging or jostling. One owner wore it through a Spartan race.

A closer look: Wear the pouch at the small of the back for longer runs, where it moves least, or at the front for quick access to the phone. It shrugs off sweat and a passing shower but isn’t waterproof, so on a stormy day slip the phone into a zip-top bag first.

  • Earbud cable hole

  • Reflective stripe

  • Weighs 3.52 oz

A pull-on tube with four openings around the band: phone, keys (on the internal hook), cards and gels go in, then the belt is turned so the openings face the body and nothing can drop out. With no buckle or zip, there’s nothing to dig in or rub.

What owners say: It stays put through workouts and races and sits comfortably at the waist, leaving both hands free. A big phone and keys go in easily, and plenty like how it looks as much as how it works.

Heads up: Measure before choosing a size: FlipBelt says to go true to size on the hips, a size up if it’s worn low and a size down at the natural waist.

A closer look: The link opens without a size picked, so choose one on the page from a waist or hip measurement. Slide the phone around to the side or back, where the band holds it flattest, and clip keys to the hook inside. FlipBelt says it can be machine washed and then hung to dry.

  • Internal key hook
  • Openings turn inward, nothing drops
  • No buckle or zip
  • Reflective logo
  • Machine washable

For runs where water matters: two 10 oz bottles with push-pull nozzles ride in holsters on the belt, so a drink is at hand without stopping, and a zipped pocket takes the phone, keys and gels. The hook-and-loop strap fits hips from 18 to 51 inches.

What owners say: It holds steady on long runs with a phone, keys and wallet aboard, and stays light and comfortable. The bottles divide people, enough for some and too small for others, and a few had the bottle strap give way within a handful of runs.

Heads up: The phone pocket is made for screens up to 6.5 inches, so a Pro Max or another big phone may not fit.

A closer look: AiRunTech designed it to sit low on the hips, so wear it there and pull the hook-and-loop strap snug before setting off. Wash the bottles out a few times before the first run, as the maker suggests. It suits long training runs and hot days; for a short run, a slimmer belt does the job.

  • Push-pull bottle nozzles
  • BPA-free bottles
  • Toggles hold a race bib
  • Reflective tab
  • Headphone hole
