The top 5 at a glance
A Bluetooth tracker is a coin-sized tag or a thin card that goes on keys, in a bag or in a suitcase and shows up on a map on your phone. Close by, your phone makes it ring so you can follow the sound; further away, it reports its position whenever another phone on the same network passes it.
It has no GPS of its own, so the map shows where a passing phone last picked it up: often in a busy airport, far less on a quiet trail. Most can warn you when you walk off and leave them behind, and some can make a lost phone ring.
What matters
- Which phones it works with: iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or any Android.
- Precision finding, which points the way when you’re close.
- A water rating, for keys that get rained on.
- A battery you swap or recharge, or one sealed in for life.

#1Apple AirTag (2nd generation)
$30–$50
Pair it with an iPhone and Precision Finding points the way to it on the phone or, for the first time, an Apple Watch, and its speaker is 50% louder than the first AirTag’s. Without an iPhone, the UGREEN Duo below works through Google’s Find Hub instead, or Samsung’s SmartTag2 with a Galaxy phone.
What owners say: Owners find it straightforward to set up and say it does what it should. Tracking, the connection, battery life, the price and how it gets on with other devices all draw mixed reports.
Heads up: Android phones can’t use it: it sets up only with an iPhone or iPad.
A closer look: If a suitcase goes astray, its location can be shared with more than 50 airlines. There’s no hole for a key ring, so add a holder or loop to hang it on keys or a bag. Precision Finding needs an iPhone 15 or later (not the 16e) or an Apple Watch Series 9 or later.
- Share location with 50+ airlines
- Apple Watch points the way
- Louder than the first AirTag
Best for: iPhone owners
- Works with
- iPhone and iPad (Find My)
- Precision finding
- iPhone 15 or later (not 16e)
- Battery
- Over a year, replaceable CR2032
- Water resistance
- IP67
- Rings your phone
- No

#2Life360 Tile Slim (2024)
$20–$30
A card 2.5 mm thick that slides into a wallet, passport cover or luggage tag and works with iPhone and Android phones alike, through the Tile or Life360 app. A double press of its button rings a lost phone, even on silent.
What owners say: Setup is easy and owners like how slim it is. The battery is the sore point: it can’t be replaced, and some arrived low, while tracking, the connection, the volume and the value all get mixed reports.
A closer look: Ring it from the app at up to 104 dB when it’s close, or check its last location on the map when it isn’t. Added to the Life360 app, it shows on the same map as the family’s phones, and its SOS feature can send an alert to your Life360 Circle.
- Only 2.5 mm thick
- SOS alert to family
- Shows on the Life360 map
Best for: Wallets, on iPhone or Android
- Works with
- iPhone and Android (Tile or Life360 app)
- Precision finding
- No
- Battery
- Up to 3 years, sealed
- Water resistance
- IP68
- Rings your phone
- Yes

#3Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 Bluetooth Tracker
$20–$30
The tag for a Samsung Galaxy phone, and only for one: it works through Samsung’s SmartThings Find, and on Galaxy models with UWB, Compass View leads you to it step by step. Lost Mode lets whoever finds it tap their own phone on it to see your contact details.
What owners say: It keeps track of whatever it’s on and follows where it has been, owners say, though they’re divided on build quality, battery life, the connection, accuracy and value.
A closer look: Its button works the other way round too, ringing your phone when that’s what has gone missing. The metal loop takes a key ring or a bag clip, and when the battery runs down it takes a standard CR2032 coin cell.
- Shows finders your contact details
- Metal loop for keys
Best for: Samsung Galaxy phones only
- Works with
- Samsung Galaxy phones (SmartThings)
- Precision finding
- Compass View (UWB Galaxy phones)
- Battery
- Up to 500 days, replaceable CR2032
- Water resistance
- IP67
- Rings your phone
- Yes

#4UGREEN FineTrack Tracker Tag (Apple Find My)
$10–$20
It uses Apple’s Find My network just as an AirTag does, at a lower price, and its coin cell lasts up to two years: one for every set of keys in the house.
What owners say: A sound budget tracker that does its job, by owners’ accounts; reliability, the connection, how loud it rings, accuracy and battery life all split them.
Heads up: It works only with Apple’s Find My, so it needs an iPhone or iPad.
A closer look: There’s no app to download: it adds straight into Find My on an iPhone, and the left-behind alert pops up if you walk off without it. Unlike an AirTag it has its own key ring hole, but no water rating, so it’s best on keys and bags rather than anything that might go for a swim.
- Left-behind alert
- No app to download
- Has a key ring hole
Best for: A tag for every key ring
- Works with
- iPhone and iPad (Find My)
- Precision finding
- No
- Battery
- Up to 2 years, replaceable CR2032
- Water resistance
- Not rated
- Rings your phone
- No

#5UGREEN FineTrack Duo Tracker Tags (4-pack, iPhone or Android)
$30–$50
Four rechargeable tags that work with an Android phone through Google’s Find Hub or with an iPhone through Apple’s Find My, so one pack can be shared in a home with both. Each charges by USB-C, and UGREEN gives it up to 12 months a charge.
What owners say: Owners count the built-in rechargeable battery as the big win over coin cells and call it effective; how well it tracks and stays connected varies from one owner to the next.
A closer look: Each tag pairs with one system at a time: to move one from an iPhone to an Android phone, remove it from Find My first, and its location history doesn’t carry across. On an iPhone it gives a left-behind alert; on Android, Lost Mode lets nearby phones report it. A USB-C cable is included.
- Four tags in the box
- Left-behind alert on iPhone
- Lost Mode on Android
- USB-C cable included
Best for: Android phones, or both kinds at home
- Works with
- iPhone (Find My) or Android (Find Hub)
- Precision finding
- No
- Battery
- Up to 12 months, rechargeable (USB-C)
- Water resistance
- Not rated
- Rings your phone
- No
