Privacy and cookies

Last updated: 29 October 2026

This policy explains what information Picked Properly ("we") collects when you use this website, and why. Picked Properly is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law, and can be contacted at [email protected].

The short version

Information collected automatically

Hosting. Our web host processes basic technical information (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. This is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Visitor statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It does not use cookies or track you across other websites. When you click a link to Amazon, the page also sends our own server a short note saying which Amazon shop and which of our pages it was; our server adds the country it can see the request came from and keeps only running totals per day. No cookies, no IP address and nothing that identifies you are kept. We also use Google Analytics to see how people find the site, which pages they read and which links to shops they click (see Cookies, below).

Photos. Some photos on this site are loaded from Unsplash and Pexels, so your browser connects to their servers to display them. Unsplash does not set cookies through these images; Pexels' privacy policy explains how Pexels handles these requests. Other photos (from Unsplash+ and Pixabay) are stored on this site itself, so showing them doesn't connect your browser to anyone else.

Cookies

Google Analytics. Google Analytics sets two cookies on this site (_ga and one starting _ga_) so that it can tell a returning visit from a new one. They are used only to produce statistics about how the site is used: Google's advertising features and Google signals are switched off, so the data isn't used to show you adverts. Visitors from the EU, the EEA and Switzerland only get these cookies if they accept them in the consent message. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Google Analytics is on for this browser.

Advertising. We show adverts provided by Google. With your consent, Google and its partners use cookies to show adverts and measure how they perform, including personalised adverts based on your visits to this and other websites. When you first visit, a consent message lets you accept or refuse these cookies, and you can change your choice at any time using the "Privacy and cookie settings" link that Google adds to the page. If you refuse, you may still see non-personalised adverts. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Amazon links. When you click a link to Amazon, you leave this site. Amazon uses cookies on its own website to record that you arrived from us. That is covered by Amazon's privacy notice.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to object to how it's used. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests will be about the third parties above, who can be contacted directly. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change how the site uses data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
